First of all if you have either Windows (insert expletive here) Vista, or worse, Vista combined with Symantec/Norton Security, TurboTax WILL NOT RUN ON YOUR COMPUTER. After hours upon hours of searching their website for "help" which isn't helpful, talking with non-English-speaking technicians who ask the same question repeatedly, (no doubt sincere in their attempts to help however THEY DON't SPEAK ENGLISH)who will tell you everything but that YOU CAN'T RUN TURBOTAX on VISTA, I have given up. The thing won't load downloads, won't access the "help" buttons, won't perform any necessary calculations - in fact, you are required to keep complex numerical formulas written down so that you can "multiply the indexed number from the last page for each quarter by 92.35%" and fill in blanks. I miss the old days when the program actually filled out the forms FOR YOU. I paid a chunk of money for this and I'm going to have to pay more to GET A DIFFERENT PROGRAM. I'd advise you to do the same and save yourself the headaches. TurboTax owes me $25 in aspirin alone.

Intuit just seems to make products that you love to hate. I've had plenty of minor gripes with the company over the past 10 years, and at one point tried to switch out of their product line entirely, only to come back.

That said, this Tax program and its finance companion, Quicken Home and Business, have been fantastic over the years for my one-man, no employees business and personal finances. I recently switched over to the Mac, and I really liked the look and feel of using TurboTax this year on the Mac. The Mac version also did an effortless job of carrying forward the data I prepared last year on a Windows machine. Yes, I also had to install this software on my old Windows machine to prepare W-2's (a feature that doesn't work on the Mac), but that's hardly unusual. Finally, I should mention that I use a nice program called "Crossover" that lets me run the Quicken Home and Business program (not the tax product) as a Windows application on my Mac. That helped to ease the transition quite a bit. This program, TurboTax Home and Business, runs as a true Mac program without the need for Crossover or additional software.

I usually take our taxes to an accountant, but have used Turbo Tax to complete relatives returns that were simpiler. I tried it for our taxes this year and it was GREAT! It's very simple to use, takes you through the process step by step, warns you if you have something that may be wrong, and electronically files your return. We had our refund automatically deposited to our account and the state one arrived in 3 days and the federal in 5. VERY nice product!

I've been a user of TurboTax for more years than I can remember. My impression is that the TurboTax people have run out of fresh ideas. The cost of the product keeps going up and now e-filing isn't included.

There are a lot of supposed improvements, but these appear to me to be more "eye-candy" rather than real improvements. And the cost of this stuff only supports raising prices.

I can't say the competitors have better products. In fact, I'll probably continue to use the TurboTax system because changing is more difficult than just putting up with the subtle lack of meaningful context-specific assistance while being inundated by loads of marginally relevant "help".

TurboTax management - return to an efficient product at a reasonable price. Exactly what is so expensive about providing e-filing that you should now be charging so much for the extra service? Is this your cash cow, like printer ink is to the makers of inkjet printers? I think so.
