Customer Review: Download wouldn't work for me

I managed to download the program but the install died at 13% every time. The error code led me to go through the process again and the final troubleshooting tip stated "There is no fix at this time". Contacting Intuit and explaining the problem got me the same instructions regardless I had already described to them in detail that I had already tried that route. I did it again anyway and wrote them back that it still didn't work and they then gave me the code to use the online program "free of charge". In the meantime, the Amazon price had come down about $3. To Amazon's credit, I recieved an immediate refund when I contscted them. As for how the program works? I couldn't tell you!

Customer Review: Intuit is the new Microsoft of pricing

Well it's not just me. Each year I hesitate to buy Turbo Tax because I don't care for the way they play with pricing. There are too many variations which are obviously designed to be confusing and contrived to get more $$ out of you than you anticipated. The marketing department is spending too much time attempting to entice you to commit to the point where its just easier to complete your taxes and suck up the hidden costs (printing- state filing etc.) than it is to back out and seek a refund. I have used TT for years and I always get a returning customer offer that is a higher price than if I just bought it in a store or download it. Plus the price seems to be way up this year. I had high regard for Intuit for many years (Quicken - Quickbooks etc.) but they are degenerating into just another company trying to increase profit by sleazily tricking customers. Their philosophy seems to have changed. After reading the reviews here I have decided to do the honorable thing and vote "no" to Turbo Tax this year. If I care enough to write this post I should man up and act on my convictions. I will look at Tax-Cut or filing via the government sites. As a second to last resort I'll use a breathing tax preparer. The last resort of course will be Turbo Tax. Thanks for the lousy treatment Microsoft- oops I meant Intuit.

Customer Review: Big problems, unfortunately

After a few years of relatively smooth use, this year's version brought two big problems. It's a pity since otherwise it is a smooth piece of software.
The problems:
- it kept asking a few questions (about an additional car (?!), certain supposedly duplicate stock transactions), and was unable to record the answers. Then I couldn't e-file before "correcting the mistakes." I had to mail the returns;
- it did not ask me a few important questions about losses, including the one about margin interest. Once I discovered the problems, I had to re-do the return again.

Since the majority of the existing comments cannot seem to convey this information without foaming at the mouth about getting ripped off. Here it is in simple English.

You purchase TurboTax Deluxe Federal + State + eFile 2008 for whatever dollar amount above. I paid $47.45 on 3/1/2009.

You get to create your federal and state tax returns.

You can efile your federal return for free.
(I did not attempt more than 1 federal efile, so I cannot speak to additional fees for additional efilings).

You can efile your state return for an additional $19.95.

That is it.

I chose to efile my federal return for free, and print my state and mail it.

I had no problems downloading it with the amazon downloader, it took all of 5 minutes.
