Software Reviews of Quicken Deluxe 2009 [OLD VERSION]

Customer Review: Frustrating Experience
Summary: 1 Stars

I, like many others here, have been a Quicken fan for many years. However, I am truly getting sick and tired of Quicken's regressive functionality and bugginess. I won't go into the functionality, but in terms of bugs, it seems that this application gets worse every release. Here are just a couple of my pet peeves:

I guess the thing that bugs me the most is that if I am viewing the balance graph at the bottom of the calendar view I can see the bars indicating balance, but if I try to roll my mouse over to get what the numeric balance is I can only get that sometimes. In earlier releases of Quicken this was not a problem.

I've tried showing numeric balances directly on the calendar, but those can't be trusted - they're almost never right, especially if you show two or more accounts at once and have transfers between those accounts.

I depend a lot on the daily balance feature to project and manage cash flow which is one of the primary things I use Quicken for. If I can't trust the numbers then this software is worthless to me.

If you're not already using Quicken, I recommend you look at something else. At this rate, in two or three releases you'll probably not even be able to get it to load...

Customer Review: Quicken Deluxe 2009
Summary: 2 Stars

I purchased this product after Microsoft ended their Money program support. I never used it and returned it to Intuit for a refund. Intuit's conversion program (converts Money data file to Quicken format) kept stopping with errors and Windows kept closing the program. I could not import all my accounts from Money into Quicken. Import instructions say that some accounts would have to be created and cannot be imported. I contacted Intuit for refund information and Customer Support wanted me to try their solution which was download Quicken 2004, create (not import) all my accounts and then install Deluxe 2009. More trouble than it was worth since more than half the year was over and I wasn't going to reenter all my data for less than half a year left. However, there was no hassle with refund process and received refund promptly.

I was using Quicken Basic 2007 with no problems. On a whim, I decided to try Quicken Deluxe 2009. I installed it over the old Quicken program and ended up with the biggest mess I have ever erperienced. There was not a single transaction shown that was
correct and the files were completely disarranged. After many attempts to straighten thing up, I removed the entire program and reinstalled Quicken Basic 2007 and recovered my old data via a backup and although I still have a backup problem, the program is operating. I have used Quicken for many years but now I am wondering if an alternative program might be better.

Customer Review: Quicken - be still my heart.
Summary: 3 Stars

I decided to buy Quicken because good ol' Microsoft dropped their similar program, Money. I miss Money, as it was more straightforward, easier to use, and just as functional as Quicken. Maybe it's just a matter of getting used to new software, but I find Quicken clunky and cluttered, although it works OK. Too bad somebody didn't make a deal to buy Money from MS and carry it on. Oh well. Quicken works, so make the most of it.

Customer Review: Great Replacement for Microsoft Money
Summary: 5 Stars

I like it! Microsoft notified us that they will no longer support Money, and I began to search for a replacement. The reviews in Amazon initially put me off because there were a lot of negative reviews. Then I noticed that the later reviews were more positive - Intuit must have fixed the product with updates. It took a couple of days to get everything I had in Money loaded in Quicken, but it was not too difficult. For investments that do not have a download capability, but do have a ticker symbol, creating a generic account with the ticker included works just fine. I haven't figured out how to stop the "live community" window from comming up every time I open the program, but I am sure I will. This a great replacement for Money - do not hesitiate to try it.
