Software Reviews of Quicken 2008 Premier [OLD VERSION]

Customer Review: Forced to Update - 2008 Terrible
Summary: 1 Stars

I have been using 2005 Premier and was very satisfied with it. Now Quicken forced me to update to 2008 or I wouldn't be able to download transactions anymore from my financial institutions. Reluctantly I upgraded. Quicken 2008 is terrible compared to 2005. It is less intuitive (funny since the company is Intuit), much much much slower, takes forever to update a screen or download transactions. It actually deleted a great portfolio feature that was in 2005 (a way to see historical comparisons on portfolio gains and losses). I am pretty much disgusted with Quicken and their totalitarian way of making you upgrade from a version that was working just fine. I think Quicken has pretty much forgotten the consumer. Unfortunately there is really no competition. If just one company could come up with a really nifty financial package they could steal all of Quicken's customers. I only wish Managing Your Money would have survived, they had a killer ap. Microsoft Money is even worse than Quicken (very talented programmers to make a program worse than Quicken). Quicken management, do you even bother to test your software before you release it? Management arrogance has brought down more than one company in the past. Bottom line, the 2008 version is actually worse than 2005.

Customer Review: Don't bother
Summary: 2 Stars

I have been a Quicken user since the early 1990s and use most of the "Premier" edition's features. This year I was forced to upgrade from Quicken 2005 when Intuit decided to stop supporting on-line services for that version. I was nervous, having read many of the reviews here that related installation nightmares, crashes, etc. Perhaps Intuit has had time to work some of the bugs out, because my upgrade went without a hitch (I use XP, not Vista), and all of my information seems to have transferred seamlessly. So why only two stars? Because this is supposed to be *two* full versions "upgraded" from the product I had been using; but I honestly cannot find a single new feature that I value at all (and not many new features period). Quicken 2008 has a slightly different look, but the nuts and bolts are unchanged. This is good in that it means long time users won't have to re-learn how to use the program. But why pay for a "new" edition that isn't new? I'd rather just send Intuit a (lower) payment for the continued ability to use Quicken 2005's on-line services. Unless you have to, don't bother upgrading.

Customer Review: Thanks Everyone

I was looking around the internet for a nice coupon code to get my 2008 upgrade to Quicken for a bit cheaper. I'm glad I found these reviews. I have been through 3 upgrades of Quicken Home / Business over the years and was utterly dissapointed in the lack of thought they put into the "changes". Aside from changing the year on the splash screen, the differences are rather menial. I was going to upgrade yet again in hopes that they would add something cool or fix some bugs but alas I have been saved by the power of the almighty angry consumer. Apparently, I did good by skipping the 2007 upgrade and I certainly don't plan on going to 2008. I love Quicken, but it sounds like Intuit is more interested in milking customers.

Customer Review: Good interface but online support doesn't match MS Money!
Summary: 2 Stars

I've been a long time MS Money user but thought I'd give Quicken a go. The user interface is pretty good and the overall product is easy to use. One of my primary aims was to be able to get the program to automatically download transactions from my bank. Unfortunately, in this instance Quicken (or my bank) only supported manual transaction download whereas MS Money supported fully automatic downloads. So, unfortunately, Quicken ended up going back to Amazon.
