Software Reviews of QuickBooks 2009 For Mac [OLD VERSION]

Customer Review: Wish I could give it ZERO stars
Summary: 1 Stars

There are many things in the 2009 version that no longer work. If you have the 2007 version, don't bother upgrading. For example, when you are in the Pay Bills module, View by Vendor no longer works. It will show some of the bills due for that vendor (apparently picking a few at random), but not all. It's completely unreliable.

I called Intuit to see if this was a known issue and to see if there was a fix I could download. Well, they wouldn't even listen to me unless I agreed to PAY THEM a tech support fee to report THEIR problems!! Why should I have to pay THEM to tell them about a problem with THEIR software??? But wait, there's more!

After I refused to pay them to report the problem, I tried to post the problem in their on-line forum. You have to register as a member of the forum. Every time I tried to register, the button that completes the process was greyed-out and prevented me from registering. I then called Intuit and they would not even assist me with registration in their supposedly free forum unless I PAID for technical support!!!

This company cares about one thing: MONEY. They do not care about putting out a quality product. They do not care if the software does not work. A good software company would welcome knowing about problems so that they can fix them. I have no respect for Intuit or Quickbooks anymore.

Customer Review: Poor Product
Summary: 1 Stars

I have been using Quickbooks Pro for the Mac for 1 year. I am very disappointed. The AddressBook sync works poorly and actually fouls up my contacts in AddressBook. They Layout manager for making custom invoices, estimates, etc. leaves a lot to be desired. Its awkward and difficult to use and has poor documentation. The search function is buggy. It won't always use the dates I give it. When I create reports Quickbooks often won't let me click to see detail. When I upgraded to this version 2009 I tried following directions, but what showed up on my screen was different from what was described in the upgrade notes. Also, when I upgraded I had to upgrade my company file. After doing that my password would no longer work and I couldn't get to my information. This program feels like a Beta version. Why would a company like Intuit make such a poor product?

Customer Review: DO NOT BUY THIS PROGRAM
Summary: 1 Stars

I recently switched from a PC to a MAC. Although, I had just bought the latest Quickbooks for PC only a year and a half ago, I purchased the 2009 QB for MAC and converted over my PC data. What a nightmare!

To start with, this software is so much worse than even the 1999 version of PC Quickbooks without many features -- particularly, the inability to select which credits I want to apply to an invoice or to unapply credits to an invoice to name just one. But even worse, this software is full of bugs. When I received multiple invoices and applied credits, if I went back to look at them afterwards, they were changed -- different invoices were checked, different credits applied, partial payments were created. Payments I received one and two years ago were now marked to pay for random invoices in the future (i.e. a 2007 payment was now marked to pay a 2008 invoice). My books have become completely messed up. I don't know which invoices are legitimately paid and which not. I don't know what payment paid what invoice. And the credits are applied to all kinds of random partial payments.

And it gets worse. I called the tech support department for help and they told me that it was something I had done that messed things up. Even though I told them I'd been using PC quickbooks for years without a problem, they still didn't believe me. He said there was no way there could be a bug in the program and the only way he'd help me was if I'd purchase a service plan. I told him I wasn't going to pay Quickbooks to fix a bug in their program and the guy was very rude. I asked how I could report a bug. I was willing to supply examples and documentation of my problem. He told me there was no way to do this and that the problem was mine, not a bug. I then hired, at my expense, a Quickbooks expert to help me and after hours of trying to clean up my books and having them get messed up again every time I received a payment, she told me she had never seen a problem like this and that the problem was with the program.

I ended up having to throw away this program that I paid good money for, put out more money to buy Windows, install it as a separate partition so I could use my old Quickbooks for Windows. While the PC version is working fine, my data is still all messed up thanks to MAC Quickbooks.

I am warning you -- DO NOT BUY THIS PROGRAM. Not only will you waste your money, but your books and data will get completely messed up.

Customer Review: I could have been a new customer...

I'm a small business owner and am seriously in the market for an accounting software that I'll use for a long time. For this reason I'm being really careful about what company I decide to use. I was thinking that would be Quickbooks, but all the reviews are awful. They seem to be even less popular than cell phone companies. You would think that in this day and age companies would figure out that we the people need 2 things: A product that works, and when it doesn't work, real, hassle free help to make it work. In the mean time I'm looking elsewhere.

Customer Review: Find a good software as service online instead. Overpriced. Full of Bugs
Summary: 1 Stars

Do not buy this software. [...]. Their software as service can do a much better job at a much better price.

When I upgraded from 2007 to 2009, I downloaded all the updates and suddenly all my memorized transactions (over 400) stopped working automatically. Apparently this nice little bug was caused by an update Intuit itself sent to users computers! At first I thought I had done something wrong and caused it, but I googled and found out this is a known issue and has been for some time. Yet QB has a vague ETA to fix this at "the end of the month".
