Software Reviews of QuickBooks 2009 For Mac [OLD VERSION]Customer Review: Good product from a non-numbers view Summary: 4 StarsFirst and foremost, I am not a numbers guy. Accounting and bookkeeping are among my two least favorite things. That's where Intuit's "QuickBooks for MAC" makes that part of life tolerable.
It is very easy to use, at least at the basic level. Entry of accounting data is simple; once you configure your check format, writing of checks and the seamless entry of the check's information into the Register are a breeze. It is sometimes difficult to figure out how to categorize the information, though that may be more a user problem than a flaw in the program.
If your accounting needs are uncomplicated, as mine are, this is a great product for you and one most CPA folks like their clients to use. (Parenthetically, it may very well be an excellent program for the complex accounting - I simply and happily am not in that world any longer.)
PS. I note being informed for the first time that what I bought apparently is an "Old Version", a piece of information not previously disclosed. Not knowing what the new version contains that this one does not, I cannot comment on the benefits of the one over the other...
Customer Review: Caveat Emptor Summary: 1 StarsIndividuals that upgraded to Snow Leopard and use QuickBooks 2007 or older will be forced to spend $150 to upgrade to QuickBooks 2009. For me, I just purchased QB 2007 one year ago and because Intuit is choosing to only issue a patch for 2009 users, my software is now useless on my new MacBook. Intuit's policy of issuing patches only on one version is a money-grubbing maneuver. If you have a choice, I would recommend Mac users look elsewhere for financial software.
Customer Review: Mac Lover Can't Trust Crashy Software Summary: 2 StarsA devout Mac lover, I broke up with the Vista PC years ago. I was tired of competing for CPU time with the nonstop system updates and virus scans. But I have to run my business. You know, estimate jobs. Bill customers. Make money. I tried the Mac version of Quick Books with great anticipation. Installed in a flash and was able to convert QB files to and from the PC. But alas, every time I tried to enter credit card charges, it would crash. Every other feature I used seemed OK. But I use my credit card a lot for client expenses. I just can't trust my business to crash-prone software that leaves me suspect as to whether it's capturing all of my critical data. So, for Quick Books, it's back to the trusty PC version. Even if I have to wait for Vista to let me use my CPU.
Customer Review: Run far away. Summary: 1 StarsI only use QuickBooks because my accountant requires it. My advice to you is that if you don't HAVE to run QuickBooks, don't.
Intuit virtually ignores the Mac version of this product. The bugs multiply and become worse with each version. Intuit only supports the absolute latest version of its software. Unlike other companies with accounting software where you get updates for four years or more, Intuit will only update the latest version, so you have to keep buying this program over and over every other year in order to reap the benefits of the few bugs that are squashed.
Intuit provides nearly zero customer service for Mac people. Customer service phone calls are handled in India by people who only know Windows and try to solve Macintosh problems by starting out with "Click on your 'Start' button..."
Read QuickBooks' Mac forum before making your final decision. You'll find thousands and thousands of complaints from Mac users that go ignored by Intuit. There are a couple of people who try to help, but they are other QuickBooks Mac users. There are no official responses or help from Intuit for the Mac product.
